Internet Marketing U-Turn

This weekend I was driving back home with my wife Anastasia from Tel-Aviv and I noticed a great deal of similarity between the Israeli highway and Internet Marketing.

Did you too notice that most of the internet marketing e-books, videos, courses and seminars always claim to deliver fast and explosive business success? I did, and I have to say that my experience in this industry leads me to believe otherwise.

Assuming that you know where you’re going, which is a mandatory condition for this metaphor to be valid for you, there’s a certain amount of miles you need to travel before you get to your destination.

However, the distinct difference between internet marketing and the highway is the fact that we never know how long is the distance that we need to cover before we get there.

For most of us, there aren’t any road signs to direct us along the way and buying a map is just something we can’t afford at the moment. But as if that wasn’t enough, there are plenty of cops to make our lives a living hell.

Of course, we can make our journey easier and more fun, if we get a steersman that will keep us company and signal if something goes wrong. But we rarely do that-we rarely ask for help.

Let us not let the circumstances pull us down. Money isn’t the only thing we can give to others.

Maybe it’s because we’re too proud, we want to prove to ourselves and everyone else that we are qualified and competent to do this on our own.

Personally, I think we’re just too damn stubborn to admit that we need help. I believe that our egos get in the way and prevent us from taking shortcuts-we just follow what everyone else is doing-we keep straight forward, we stick between the white and yellow lines.

I believe that the reason why such a mind boggling amount of people stop by the side of the road and make a u-turn only to someday totally crash their dreams into a lamp post or a tree, is because the unknown journey ahead takes its toll on us. We can’t figure out what awaits us down the road and so we bail on our dreams.

What can we do? Install a freaking GPS?

Let’s not be uptight about asking for help-someone will respond sooner or later. Let us not let the circumstances pull us down. Money isn’t the only thing we can give to others.

We all have something to share. We all have something others consider to be a treasure. Open your mind to the universal truth that there are no limits to what you can and cannot do (even if you are a complete newbie).

Use Googles’ free keyword research tool. Just enter “Keyword Tool External” in the Google search box and it will come up number 1 in the results.

Search for keywords related to your product or service. As a general rule of thumb, try to choose keywords (or keyword phrases) that get between 10,000 to 20,000 searches per month. Anything less may be not enough, and anything more may mean that the keyword is too competitive.

After you choose your keyword, include it in the title of your article, the first paragraph, and the last paragraph.

Make sure you write a catchy, attention grabbing headline that directly identifies the benefits of reading the article. Answer the famous marketing question, “What is in it for me?” The headline and the article should answer a current problem in the market niche, show people how to save time and money, show people how to gain pleasure (like making money) or avoid pain (like losing time and money).

Begin your article by identifying the problem or benefit you are going to write about. Then write two to four paragraphs outlining your main points. A good idea is to write articles offering 3,5, or 7 tips, best methods to, ways to improve, and so on. You get the idea. People love reading these types of lists.

The Resource Box

This is the most important part of your article because here you have an opportunity to sell yourself, your product, or your service. Remember, the resource box is all about the benefit to the reader of clicking a link in the resource box. An example would be offering more tips on your topic for free by visiting your site.

Take a look at some of the resource boxes in the article directories, especially those written by some of the top marketers. Take note of the ones that give you the urge to click through for more information and write yours in the same style.

You can usually include two links in your resource bow. Make sure you use both of them and use your main keywords as anchor text, linking to your site.
